“Your kids require the most; to love them for who they are, not to spend your whole time trying to correct them.” Bill Ayers

Raising children is one of the toughest and the most fulfilling jobs in the world, and the one for which you may be least prepared for. Why do we forget that children learn from examples better than they listen from preaching? I can go on talking but cannot teach people in 50 years what my father taught me in one week through his positive actions.

Praising your child’s accomplishments, however small will make them feel proud; similarly, letting your child do things independently will make them feel capable , strong and confident.

NO CHILD IS A PROBLEM CHILD. IT IS ALWAYS A SITUATION THAT CREATES THEM:

Now I want to switch over to the problems of our children at every age group which sometimes, as parents we fail to understand:

a) Improper food habits

b) Lack of sharing their thoughts

c) Being bullied at times and unable to share

d) Not being appreciated for their efforts

e) Emotionally neglected

f) Wrong peer group

Teenage years are truly difficult and the problems are even worse:

a) Massive Biological changes

b) Academic stress

c) The need to look good

d) The need for independence

e) Confusion about one’s own identity (teenagers want to be treated as adults)

f) Hormonal overload; — — — When physical and emotional changes are at its peak.

g) Attention seeking syndrome

h) Peer pressure

Simple Solutions:

PRAISE YOUR CHILD IN PUBLIC AND CRITICIZE IN PRIVATE:

Parents to take their right foot forward to understand their children better and provide them with solutions to instil confidence in their loved ones:

1. Make communication a priority and show that your love is unconditional

2. Make suggestions and offer choices. Be open to your child’s suggestions and negotiations as well.

3. Children who participate in decisions are more motivated to carry them out.

4. Try to build faith in your child by talking to them

5. Give importance to them and their decisions

6. Being supportive of their decisions

7. LISTEN MORE SPEAK LESS

8. Always remember your touch will definitely make a difference; warm, loving and caring touch

9. Allow them to commit and confess their mistakes without a critical viewpoint in fact celebrate their failures too, at times

10. Share your feelings with them without shattering their confidence

11. AVOID COMPARISONS

12. Be a good role model

MY APPEAL TO ALL PARENTS:

Knowing your child will help you to forge quality relationships.

Being positive and solution oriented always helps children to move forward with CONFIDENCE in life.
